Cheeselover’s Broccoli Gratin
8 cups broccoli florets
1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 cup cream
1 large or 2 medium brown onions
2 cups grated cheese
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 cup breadcrumbs
Half onions, then slice thinly. Melt dab of butter in a small pan and saute until soft. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 180 degrees and lightly oil medium-sized casserole dish.
In a large pot, add broccoli to boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Drain, rinse and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in flour and spices, then add cream until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in 3/4 of cheese.
Arrange broccoli and onions in the baking dish. Pour over cheese sauce and gently stir to coat.
Sprinkle breadcrumbs and remaining cheese evenly over the mixture.
Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes, or until browned. Place under broiler for a few minutes if needed to brown.
Rest 10 minutes before serving.
