After 27 years of butchering, Jack contemplated studying English literature while castrating some pigs. Although we encourage butchers to develop their softer side, we all agree that Jack should stick to being the Captain of cleanliness, efficiency & team-building as the general manager of Fresh Meats. With his 20 pairs of eyes, he pushes and pulls the best out of his team for our customers.
This Burnside native spent time as an apprentice in WA before returning to the Sunshine Coast to rack up serious experience in butchery. He’s worked in 30 different Woolworths from Kawana to Noosa, and spent many years learning old school butchery in smaller business as well. Nothing’s too much trouble for our manager and he “always gets it done with a smile” – colleagues and customers love him!
Growing up on a protea farm in the Adelaide Hills, Ian always enjoyed fresh produce and good food. He started as a kitchen hand in a heritage listed venue and quickly progressed to run hotels and restaurants in Adelaide and north coast NSW. He’s now our Sunshine Coast sales manager who truly understands the needs of our wholesale customers.
Shane, oh Shane. Our customers know Shane and he knows them. His fellow workmates love him and he loves them right back. This “legend”, “top bloke” and “great butcher, great guy” cares deeply about serving his customers right and doing good by his colleagues. He’s a self-professed people person whose family comes first, followed by fishing, footy, camping and cooking.
Born and bred on the Sunshine Coast, Nathan knows his fish. Since his first catch as a child, he continued on as a pro fishing guide, at a pet store, in fish quarantine in Brisbane, at sea as a deck boss and running an aquaculture business. When fish is not on his mind and in his hands, Nathan is a fierce motor cross competitor. He’s also a “bush to beach, fish to hay” kinda guy who loves acreage, farming and horses.
Holly is the sweetheart who bakes all staff members a cake on their birthdays. She’s bubbly, friendly and easy to get along with – perfect because she loves to interact with customers and know their names – and they know hers! She loves to cook, bake (hence the cakes) and hang out with her friends. Her mates at work think she’s a great entertainer and has an infectious laugh; some even call her ‘mum’!
Deb is officially our bookkeeper, but in reality she is also our counselor, office manager, go to person for anything and everything, with experience in many industries. She’s also the “Queen” of Liquid Crystals and self development with workshops and courses. She’s the bubbliest, giggliest ‘Paylady’ you will ever meet – just don’t bug on her a Monday!
“We love our Benni”, “Everybody needs a Benni” and even “I would marry Benni if he wan’t already married” – you get the idea. This Sunshine Coast native has always loved cooking, even as a young child. He trained and worked locally and also overseas in Canada, but is enjoying being back and close to family. We love his passion for food, respectful manners and innovative cooking!
Sue or Susie Q is Holly’s till partner-in-crime, who enjoys interacting with customers and is always busy helping the team at Fresh Meats. She is honest and committed; she also brings lollies on Sundays so the staff love her even more. Relaxing with family is at the top of the list, along with BBQs with friends, sunrises, sunsets and beach strolls (minus the crowds and the sand).
Since moving to the Sunshine Coast 10 years ago, this Kiwi has built boats, worked in the mines, skinned crocodiles, you name it! She’s loved every single experience, but she’s enjoying her time at Fresh Meats as she began work at sixteen as an apprentice butcher and a good one too! Customers love her enthusiasm and care, and we do too. Outside of work, Sarah likes kayaking, swimming and going to the beach with her daughter.
Jo is a “pocket rocket” who is dedicated to her work and protective of her colleagues. Originally from Melbourne, she came to the coast 17 years ago and has worked in butchery before Fresh Meats. She loves going to the beach and the markets, but her greatest love is her bonsai trees, all 18 of them!
