We are serious about fresh meat.
We process animals onsite and work with reputable suppliers to provide you with the best products and the best service at the best prices on the Sunshine Coast and beyond. Our team includes not only experienced butchers but also former chefs, who genuinely understand the needs of other chefs, caterers and foodies.
Our philosophy is simple:
- We believe that fresh and consistent high quality meat can and should be affordable for all families and businesses on the Sunshine Coast.
- We value your health as well as ours so we stay away from unnecessary additives, colorings & preservatives – no gooey bottled marinades or plastic-y sausages ever.
- We take customer service seriously – our knowledgeable staff members are ever ready to assist you and meet your (meat!) needs.
- We prioritize professionalism throughout the process – how meat is handled behind the counter is just as important as how it is grown.
Please meet the members of the Fresh Meats team
Martin grows his own fruit, vegetables and meat at home. Naturally, he gets upset at his wife if she ever buys anything in plastic at the supermarket. He also loves to catch and sashimi up his own fish or cut up and cook his own meat, so this passion + his friendship with Jack = Fresh Meats. Martin’s puns and jokes can make you groan, but he’s a he’ll never let his mates and customers down.
After 27 years of butchering, Jack told Martin he wanted to study English literature while they were castrating some pigs. Although we encourage butchers to develop their softer side, we all agree that Jack should stick to being the Captain of cleanliness, efficiency & team-building as the general manager of Fresh Meats. With his 20 pairs of eyes, he pushes and pulls the best out of his team for our customers.
Our powerhouse inhouse chef Rod “enjoys looking after people and their satisfaction is mine” – straight from the horse’s mouth. His experience is astounding: 5 years as the executive chef of QLD’s largest coal seam mine, 8 years in seafood sales and 17 years as an executive chef on the coast. In his spare time, he plays with his grandkids, goes fishing, dines out in Noosa with his wife, or just tinkers as men do.
Agnes is a city girl gone country, having been convinced by Martin that raising children, cows, goats, pigs, dogs, chickens, a horse and countless rounds of guinea pigs is good for the soul. She now appreciates acreage living for the family and does not miss city traffic one bit. She’s makes her own kimchi (the real deal), teaches yoga, and spends her time on marketing, design & general helping out at Fresh Meats.
Shane, oh Shane. Our customers know Shane and he knows them. His fellow workmates love him and he loves them right back. This “legend”, “top bloke” and “great butcher, great guy” cares deeply about serving his customers right and doing good by his colleagues. He’s a self-professed people person whose family comes first, followed by fishing, footy, camping and cooking.
Holly is the sweetheart who bakes all staff members a cake on their birthdays. She’s bubbly, friendly and easy to get along with – perfect because she loves to interact with customers and know their names – and they know hers! She loves to cook, bake (hence the cakes) and hang out with her friends. Her mates at work think she’s a great entertainer and has an infectious laugh; some even call her ‘mum’!
Sue or Susie Q is Holly’s till partner-in-crime, who enjoys interacting with customers and is always busy helping the team at Fresh Meats. She is honest and committed; she also brings lollies on Sundays so the staff love her even more. Relaxing with family is at the top of the list, along with BBQs with friends, sunrises, sunsets and beach strolls (minus the crowds and the sand).
Tina of all trades, or Miss All-Around 2016, is 1/3 of the Samoan Squad (along with Paul & John) who helps out the whole operation. She’s bubbly, vivacious, beautiful inside out, loud and wonderful (“annoying” only to her siblings). When she’s not hanging out with her Fresh Meats family, she loves hitting the gym, partying hard with her sista Holly and babysitting her little nephew.
This born and raised local Sunshine Coast gal is a “little ray of sunshine” according to her colleagues and our customers agree as well. She loves working with all the staff at Fresh Meats and is always willing to help customers with a smile. She’s a “general all-rounder” who can be found behind the service counters, at the registers or on the shop floor. In her spare time, she loves reading and hanging out with mates at the beach or out to eat!
Michelle is our lovely “pre-pack queen” – “shorty” to some and “Fresh Meats mother” to others. She is busy packing, stacking or serving our customers at the front of the shop. This top chick always puts her family first and loves to look after her hubs and kids. With all that spare time she has as a working mother (not!!!), she likes to hit the gym, go to the beach or just be outdoors.
“Everybody loves Johnny” just about sums up what this guy’s about. His jokes may not always be funny but this gentle giant is ever happy to have a laugh. John is usually out the back where our small goods operation churns out delicious hams and sausages for our customers. This silent achiever enjoys the beach but prefers to hang out at home with friends and family instead of partying too late, unlike his siblings here!
Deb is officially our bookkeeper, but in reality she is also our counselor, office manager, go to person for anything and everything, with experience in many industries. She’s also the “Queen” of Liquid Crystals and self development with workshops and courses. She’s the bubbliest, giggliest ‘Paylady’ you will ever meet – just don’t bug on her a Monday!
“My annoying brother”, “gentleman butcher”, “big and bold” and “good bloke” – these all describe Paul, who’s been at 86 Wises Road for 11 years – a long time for a relatively young fella! He is literally everywhere in the shop helping the crew get prepped for our customers. When he’s not butchering up a storm, he can be found exploring new places with his mates or hanging out at the beach.
